AEIS词汇辨析：关于不同的”人“，应该要区别对待

　　一、man

　　1．成年男子；男子汉；男子气概

　　Who’s that man？He’s Jim’s father. 那男的是谁？他是吉姆的父亲。

　　The army will make a man of him. 军队将把他锻炼成一个真正的男子汉。

　　Be a man！拿出点男子汉气概（勇气）来！

　　2．（泛指）人；个人；任何人；人类

　　All man must die. 人固有一死。

　　Man will conquer nature. 人定胜天。

　　Man’s knowledge of things develops all the time. 人类的认识一直在不断发展着。

　　3．（用在物主代词后面）合适的对象

　　If you want a good driver，he’s your man. 如果你要一个好司机的话，他最合适。

　　The problem is where to find our man. 问题是到哪儿找一位合适的人选。

　　I think you mistake your man. 我想你找错了对象。

　　4．（用在口语中，表示不耐烦、轻蔑等语气）老兄，伙计，家伙。

　　Hurry up，man！嗨，赶快。

　　Wake up，man！You can’t sleep all day. 老兄，醒醒吧！你不能整天睡觉吧。

　　“Be quiet，man！Mr Green shouted angrily.”“安静一点，你这个家伙！”格林先生生气地嚷道。

　　二、people

　　people意为“人，人们”，着重指集合而言，是集体名词，没有复数形式，但用作复数；作主语时，谓语动词用复数形式。例如：

　　How many people are there in your family？你家有几口人？

　　There were thousands of people in the park last Sunday.上星期天公园里有成千上万的人。

　　People say that by the year 2010，the population will be seven billion.人们说，到2010年世界人口将达到70亿。

　　people前加冠词时意为“人民，民族。例如：

　　the Chinese people 中国人民

　　a great people 一个伟大的民族

　　三、person

　　person意为“人”，着重指个别人而言，可用单数或复数。person常用于书面语（如官方文件、公告、通知等）中，在口语中常用代替people。例如：

　　You’re just the person I want to see. 你就是我想见的人。

　　He is a difficult person to deal with. 他是一个难以相处的人。

　　Several persons/people spoke at the meeting. 好几个人在会上发了言。

　　四、population

　　population意为“人口（数目），全体居民。要注意它与people的区别。

　　1．people作主语时谓语动词复数；而population作主语时谓语动词用第三人称单数形式。试比较。

　　The people in the room are talking loudly. 这个房间里的人正大声谈话。

　　The population of Fudong is about 30，000.富东的人口总数大约是30，000。

　　2．people根据的数目提问用疑问词how many；而根据population的数目提问必须用疑问词what。试比较。

　　How many people are there in China？中国有多少人？

　　What’s the population of China.中国的人口是多少？

　　3．比较people多少时用形容词few和many；而比较population多少时则用形容词small和big（large）。试比较。

　　1）北京的人口比上海的人口少。

　　A：There are fewer people in Beijing than in Shanghai.

　　B：The population of Beijing is smaller than that of Shanghai.

　　2）德国的人口比法国的人口多。

　　A：There are more people in Germany than in France.

　　Germany has more people than France.

　　B：The population of Germany is bigger/larger than that of France.

　　3）中国的人口在世界上最多。

　　A：China has the most people in the world.

　　B：China has the biggest/largest population in the world.
